The Crown Inn is located in Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire. It’s less than an hour from London, however, the closer you get to The Crown the more enveloped you feel by the unspoiled period buildings and cobbled paths, it feels like a world away from London.

By the time you step foot into The Crown Inn, you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The building is a wonderful Tudor coaching inn with an abundance of character both inside and out. The interior layout and design are best described as contemporary and rustic, and with rooms designed by celebrated British designer Ilse Crawford MBE, it’s a pure treat to explore and we found a number of interesting features.

After a brief check-in, we were shown to our lodgings which on this occasion was one of their Courtyard suites. We were pleased to see our room retained all the character and charm we had been treated to so far. The vaulted ceilings and exposed beams can’t be ignored, the simple dark wood furniture with a clean white backdrop is a lovely contrast, and the main feature has to be the king-sized four-poster bed dressed with crisp white linen.

“We simply can’t fault any part of our stay.”

We mentioned there were some interesting features throughout the Inn, the free-standing roll-top bath that is actually in the bedroom is one such feature. For those who prefer privacy, however, there is a separate bathroom with a drench style shower.

We don’t want to ruin the surprise for anyone, but something we have to mention is the complimentary tray that guests are treated to. We were presented with wine, chocolate raisins, and nuts, which were most enjoyable. There was also freshly ground filter coffee available which was a welcomed treat the following morning.

For on-site facilities, we recommend visiting their Red House Spa and Gym. Here you’ll find a range of spa facilities, yoga classes, and a gym kitted out with all the exercise equipment you could want for. It’s the perfect way to catch some rest and relaxation or unwind after a long day.

In terms of dining options, Hawkyns is their house restaurant. With twice Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar at the helm, not only will you be treated to an exquisite range of carefully crafted dishes, it’s an absolute must for those who appreciate fine Indian cuisine.

We simply can’t fault any part of our stay. The location is perfect, the ambiance set by the Tudor building that has been wonderfully maintained and designed is a pure joy and unique to The Crown Inn, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and we would happily return again.
